The MacArthur Generals Boys Basketball Teams Have A Great Season!

February 11, 2010

Generals Basketball 2009-2010

6th/7th Grade Team

The sixth and seventh grade boys’ basketball team, coached by Mr. Sorellino, had an excellent season this year by standing out in the conference and ending with a record of 13-1.  They started the season with a first game home loss of 36-37. This loss was the first and the last.  The Generals would then go on to a 12 game winning streak, winning the conference.

The Generals were lead by team captain Glynn who averaged 15 points per game.  Jarviss was another leading scorer who had an average of 11 points per game. Defensive leaders were Rashad, Darrell, Bennie, Lance, Dasaan, and Asa.  Another part of the arsenal that the Generals had were off the bench players, Deshon, Tyreek, Torious, and Fontain.

During the playoffs the team again displayed excellent sportsmanship and athleticism.  In the end, the Generals won the championship by defeating Roosevelt 38-33.  After the win, the team celebrated and took home the first place trophy with pride.  The team never lost focus, they played as champions, they played as GENERALS!

8th Grade Team

The season for the MacArthur Generals started quickly with only one practice before their first game. The eighth grade team, coached by Mr. Allen, got off to a great start defeating Julian. The Generals cruised through the regular season defeating every team in the conference except Brooks. The Generals ended the regular season with 12 wins and 2 losses.

The point guard for the Generals, Mike, had a terrific year leading in scoring with 12 points per game. He also led in assists with 8 per game. Shooting guard, Scott, also had a terrific season averaging 11 points and 7 assists. Scott had to play a  lot of roles for the Generals, even center for a few quarters. No matter where he played, he dominated. Edward was the consistent big man down low. His heart and determination helped him average 15 defensive and 7 offensive rebounds a game. He also blocked shots and averaged 8 points a game. Teon, Victor, Darnell, Anthony, Keyshaun, Sylvester, and Rodarrion also contributed to the teams’ incredible season.

The Generals went into the tournament as a second seed. They won their first game against Roosevelt by one point. This win brought them to the championship game. At half-time the score was 23-24 and the Generals had a shot at besting the indomitable Brooks. The Generals battled against a tough Brooks team during the third and fourth quarters, but could not prevail. The Generals finished the tournament in second place.

Congratulations to both teams on an incredible season!!!
